1) Jan 27, 2008 - I decided to make your homework Optional. I firmly believe that you should do the homework. The homework helps you understand the physics concepts. But, I will let you all make up your minds. If you do the homework, I will count it in to your grade as usual. You can do whatever you want. You can do the first chapter but not the second. You could skip the first 5 chapters and do the last five chapters.Example, you may want to do chapters 1,3,5,6 and 13. And, you get 10 points on each assignment. That is 50/50 points on the homework component of your grade which will be calculated into your final grade.

2) March, 15 2008 - Hello everyone. I am here today to offer help to all those lost in the meandering hallways and subterranean stacks of academia. I want you all to do well in my class. Some of you may not understand what is expected or may be too busy with your hectic lives to seek help.

On Thursday evening, from 8-10 pm and 11 pm-2 am, I will hold an Email Help Session.
And, I will continue on Friday morning from 9-noon. Consider it a big cyberhug
to all those searching for the 'way'.

I will stay at my computer for those hours to have a continuing conversation with anyone who wants help from me to stay in the game or to raise their grade. All questions are welcome. Anything you want yo ask will be fine.

Plan ahead. Think of some good questions. Have a problem ready that you can work on with me. I will be working with others but it will seem like realtime to you. If you have a scanner that would be good, too. You can even use your cell phone to take pictures of your work and send it to me.
If you need a shoulder to cry on, or someone to scream at, or a joke to tell that is ok, too. All conversations will be private unless you get together with a friend.

Hopefully you are showing up to class. We have already done some problems and answered some questions and will continue to do so. See you tomorrow in class.

3) March 21, 2008 - Hello everyone. There were very few takers to my email help session on Thursday and Friday. If you need help please take advantage of these opportunities that I provide. I want you all to be successful.

There are also very few students who are taking advantage of my office hours. I am in my office from 2-3:30 on MTWTH and 9-10 on MW. Please stop by. I also have a TA who is available on Friday at 1 pm in room 145. He says that so far only one student has shown up.

Test 4 is a take home test. I want you to be able to have ample time to do what I require on every test. This is your opportunity to raise your grade and set yourself up to end the semester on an up note. You will need to pick up the test in class and return it on Tuesday at the beginning of class.

Come to office hours. Work with others in a group. You will always do better if you work and collaborate with other students. Bring a problem that you have started. Practice writing out the answers to the 6 questions. Practice drawing diagrams for the problems. I will look at these and give you hints on how to make them better or to reassure that they are good.

We are fast approaching the time that you will need to get serious if you are not doing well. Everyone has a chance to do better. We have 3 more Tests and a Final. So, please do not throw in the towel.

4) Test 4 is a take-home test.
You will pick it up this Thursday and return it on Tuesday at the beginning of class after the break.

I want you to do well on this test. The purpose of the take-home test is to practice writing out your reasoning, drawing your diagrams and orgainizing your solution. So please take this opportunity to do what is required of you in this class. You have 2 more tests and a Final after this test.

Everyone is required to answer the questions and problems by themselves in your own words.
You can use the book. But don't copy from the book.
Please do not work with anyone on this test. This is a test.
