Behavior is the expression of ones' genetic and physiological (chemical) make-up. Certainly, environment has played a crucial role in the construction of our genetic and physiological expression. Just ask the dinosaurs! Differences in individual behavior are derived from the differences in this individual genetic and physiological expression. These 'differences' in behavior are miniscule compared to the the similarities in behavior among individuals. Is behavior dictated by the environment? In the grand scheme of the universe---most certainly. But, genetics (DNA) is the manifestation of a chemical cabal to thwart the control that the environment has over living organisms. Our genetic history is the story of constant struggle to wrest control of our behavior and our future behavior from the clutch's of the environment. The dinosaurs' genetics did not develop a nervous system that could detect wayward asteroids that could whack them out of existence. Hence, mammals were given the opportunity to succeed where our smelly reptilian ancestor's failed. I contend that our gross behavior is derived from that struggle between genetics and the environment. -- Tony DiMauro

Past Announcements

1) I have reduced the amount of points that need to be done on WebAssign to get the maximum points on the homework assignments from 50 to 35 points.

2) Hello everyone. I am here today to offer help to all those lost in the meandering hallways and subterranean stacks of academia. I want you all to do well in my class. Some of you may not understand what is expected or may be too busy with your hectic lives to seek help.

On Thursday evening, from 8-10 pm and 11 pm-2 am, I will hold an Email Help Session.
And, I will continue on Friday morning from 9-noon. Consider it a big cyberhug
to all those searching for the 'way'.

I will stay at my computer for those hours to have a continuing conversation with anyone who wants help from me to stay in the game or to raise their grade. All questions are welcome. Anything you want yo ask will be fine.

Plan ahead. Think of some good questions. Have a problem ready that you can work on with me. I will be working with others but it will seem like realtime to you. If you have a scanner that would be good, too. You can even use your cell phone to take pictures of your work and send it to me.
If you need a shoulder to cry on, or someone to scream at, or a joke to tell that is ok, too. All conversations will be private unless you get together with a friend.

Hopefully you are showing up to class. We have already done some problems and answered some questions and will continue to do so. See you tomorrow in class.

3) Test 4 is a take-home test.
You will pick it up this Thursday and return it on Tuesday at the beginning of class after the break.

I want you to do well on this test. The purpose of the take-home test is to practice writing out your reasoning, drawing your diagrams and orgainizing your solution. So please take this opportunity to do what is required of you in this class. You have 2 more tests and a Final after this test.

Everyone is required to answer the questions and problems by themselves in your own words.
You can use the book. But don't copy from the book.
Please do not work with anyone on this test. This is a test.
